Centre of Excellence for Girls

Wiltshire County FA were awarded a license by The Football Association to commence a Centre of Excellence for Girls at the start of the 2008/2009 playing Season, Barry Pocock being appointed as Centre Director in July 2008.

The Centre of Excellence for Girls football in Wiltshire is committed to development of players and enhancing player performance in English female football.

During the inaugural season, Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence for Girls played more fixtures that any other Girls Centre of Excellence in the South West.  In all, 23 fixtures were played by under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 16 aged teams within a South West Regional fixture programme and against other Centres of Excellence with an FA license in England.

FA officials and talent scouts attended Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence training sessions, match fixtures and also the FA Regional Talent Camp trials held in Bristol.  Five girls from both under 14 and under 16 squads were selected, from Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence, to attend the South West Regional Trials, allowing further opportunity to be selected for England National Youth Squad selection at under 15 and under 17 years of age.

Within the inaugural Season also, four girls from the Centre of Excellence were selected to represent Wiltshire County Under 18's Womens team, enhancing the career potential of one player in being able to attend Chelsea College and be admitted on the player pathway to Chelsea Womens Football Club.

At the culmination of the 2008/2009 Season, Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence held its first "End of Season Presentation Evening" on Saturday 2nd May 2009 and a coach outing was also made to watch the Arsenal v Sunderland FA Womens Cup Final, held at Derby County FC on Monday 4th May 2009.

The 2009/2010 playing Season has continued in raising standards from the previous Season.  Players at the Centre of Excellence for Girls continue to train twice during the week (Tuesday and Thursday evening) with match fixtures being played on a Saturday morning.

Opportunities now do exist for all talented and gifted female footballers in Wiltshire to attend a pre-season main trial, a mid-season or six-week trial at Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence for Girls.  In supporting female footballers in the County of Wiltshire, at and above a local level, Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence for Girls offers the only route for talented and gifted female footballers in the County to represent their Country at under 15 and under 17 years of age.

If you are female and eligible for under 10, under 12, under 14 or under 16 squad age groups (age qualifying date is 1st September each year) and you are interested in attending a trial at Wiltshire County FA Centre of Excellence for Girls, please register your interest in attending the trials by contacting Kate Kelly at the Wiltshire County FA offices on 01793 486047 or via email at kate.kelly@wiltshirefa.com
