Physio's Corner

‘Physio’s Corner’……….Introducing Dick Mackey…….

It was with great pleasure that I accepted an invitation from Mike Benson the County FA’s Hon. Secretary to accept the role of consulting physiotherapist to Wiltshire County FA (WCFA). The role includes providing medical cover for County Representative teams and other footballing events throughout the County, and offering advice and treatment to injured players where appropriate.

After 18 years of service with Swindon Town Football Club dealing with a myriad of musco-sketal injuries and general illness and attending over 1,400 games of professional football I now have the opportunity to return to the fold of Wiltshire County FA under whose governance I played many years of football having great enjoyment and making many friends within the game. I am an HPC registered physiotherapist and a member of the society of sports therapists and attend lectures and seminars to keep abreast of modern thinking in sports medicine. I hope I can bring some of the expertise and experience of elite football to the position.

I anticipate the opportunity of sharing some of my experience within the game both from a football perspective and a professional medical opinion.

Over the coming weeks and months I shall be producing some brief articles in conjunction with the WCFA team to provide some tips and support to our family of football volunteers in grassroots football in relation to the treatment and management of injuries. There will be regular features posted to the County FA’s web-site and in other County FA publications. The first of these features will appear soon and before Christmas.
