FA County Youth Cup Round 2
Hertfordshire FA 1 v Wiltshire FA 4
Played on Saturday 5th November 2011

Wiltshire were going into the unknown having never been drawn against Hertfordshire before.

Wiltshire should have gone straight into the lead when Jake Johns (New College) won the ball and played it through to Ryan Campbell who shot into the corner of the goal, but Goalkeeper Michael Johnson (Knights Templer Sch) diving to his left pushed the ball round his left hand post for a corner.

Only good saves and some near misses stopped Wiltshire from taking the lead, but in the 25th minute Hertfordshire took the lead. A long ball played over the Wiltshire defence fell to No 8 (Cairo Duncan) who shot over the Wiltshire keeper and the ball dropped just under the bar.

Wiltshire equalised in the 45th minute when Ben Wickens (FC Chippenham) won a ball in the air, headed it over the defender and ran on to shoot past the Keeper to score.

Half time score: 1 – 1

The second half started brightly with Wiltshire doing all the attacking, but the Hertfordshire Keeper kept the home side in the game.

The game was turned on its head when Josh Morse (Cirencester Academy / Wootton Bassett) scored 3 goals within 5 minutes. His first was an individual effort when he beat two defenders and shot past the Keeper. His second was straight from a kick off - Jake Johns won the ball, played it to Ben Wickens who played it on to Josh Morse. Josh picked his spot to score his second. His third was again straight from the re-start when Charlie Austin (on as a sub) beat a defender and laid it on for Morse to score his hatrick.

Final Score: Wiltshire 4 – 1 Hertfordshire
Man of the Match: Josh Morse

FA County Youth Cup Round 1
Wiltshire 2 v Jersey 1
Played at Laverstock & Ford on Saturday 15th October 2011

Wiltshire, who have had a good run in the FA County Youth Cup for several seasons, are again through to the second round following this 2-1 win over Jersey.

Jersey had a lively start to the match doing most of the attacking, but the Wiltshire defence held firm and their goalkeeper Rob Brown was not troubled.

As the half progressed Jersey created more chances, but most of their efforts were off target.

In the 37th minute Jersey took the lead following a good move down the right flank and a precision cross into the six yard box. The Wiltshire keeper (Brown) could only parry the ball into the path of the Jersey no. 6 (Nick Carpenter) and he found the net giving Brown no chance.

There was then a lull of chances for the rest of the half.

After 53 minutes Wiltshire equalised through Danny Hale (Wootton Bassett Town). He won the ball in his own half before accelerating through the heart of the Jersey defence to find Jamie Broom (Melksham Town). He then broke into the Jersey penalty area to slip the ball past the advancing Jersey goalkeeper Jordan Le-Guyader.

Both sides then had chances to score but in the 88th minute Wiltshire took advantage and got the winner. Jake Johns (New College) chipped a ball into the six yard box and Hale rose high to plant a header over keeper Le-Guyader and put Wiltshire through to a second round away match with Hertfordshire in November.

South and West Counties Championship Competition
Youth Group B
Somerset 5 Wiltshire 1
Played at Odd Down on Thursday 17 March 2011

Somerset’s Isaac Reid who netted five goals in their Football Association County Youth match with Sussex early in the season was again on target with a hat-trick in this 5-1 win over Wiltshire.

Wiltshire were first out of the starting gate playing some good early football and had the best of the first 15 minutes.

Somerset then started to come more into the match and on 22 minutes took the lead. Tyrone Mings (Millfield) on his debut collected a ball some 20 yards out and shot in at the near post.

Eight minutes later it was 2-0 as Redid scored his first when with his back to the goal he turned and fired a shot into the bottom right hand corner of the Wiltshire net.

On 40 minutes Reid got his second and Somerset’s third when he cut in from the right rounded a defender and from an oblique angle found the back of the net at the near post.

In time added on at the end of the first half Wiltshire pulled a goal back to make it 3-1. This originated from a free kick out on the right which was headed back across goal from the far post by Jack Vallis (Shrewton United) and John Rees (New College) headed home.

In the 81st minute it was Reid again who scored Somerset’s fourth. This time he rounded two defenders and fired in a shot from 25 yards out.

After 85 minutes Somerset’s substitute Tom Hopkins (Bridgwater Town) collected a loose ball following a melee in the Wiltshire penalty area and allotted past the Wiltshire goalkeeper Edd Baldy (Bradford Town) to complete the scoring.

The Referee Mr Martin Tudor of Gloucestershire had an excellent match.
