English Schools FA Salisbury SSP Competition

11:45 AM, Monday, 22 February 10. News

Broad Chalke hosted the first round of the English Schools Girls and Boys U11 football competition for the partnership on consecutive weeks. It started with a fine day for the girl’s competition with 16 teams from across the partnership taking part.

The initial stages of the competition saw the schools play in 4 pools to determine who went through to the Cup and plate stages of the competition. The top two teams from each pool made it through to the Cup competition while third and fourth place went through to play in the Plate competition.

The Cup and Plate stages of the competition resulted in the top two teams of each group progressing through to the semi
finals. In the Cup competition Broad Chalke A beat New Forest in the first semi final whilst St Marks beat Woodlands A in
the second after extra time. The first Plate semi final saw St Pauls beat Harnham and in the other Winterslow beat
Woodford.

The final of the Cup competition resulted in Broad Chalke beating St Marks 3 -0 and in the Plate final, Winterslow beat
Woodford 1 – 0.

A week later and the boys had their chance. The weather was a complete contrast to the week before with rain failing
throughout the day. This did not deter the 19 teams that took art. Like the girl’s competition, the day started with schools
playing in four pools to determine who went through to the knock-out stages. The top two teams from each group
qualifying for the quarter finals.

In the first quarter final, Harnham beat St Osmunds. The second quarter final saw Broad Chalke 1 beat New Forest. In the
third quarter final, Pembroke beat Woodford and in the last quarter final St Marks beat Woodlands 1.

In the first semi-final Harnham narrowly beat Pembroke while in the other St Marks triumphed over Broad Chalke 1. In
what was to be a tight and nervous final, St Marks came out winners by beating Harnham by 1 – 0.

Broad Chalke and St Marks girls and St Marks and Harnham Boy’s will now go and represent the partnership in the
County Finals in Chippenham on the 26th January 2010.

Thanks go out to all that helped on both days to make them great competitions. In particular, Neil Mawdsley and Karen
from Broad Chalke for organising the day, the young leaders from Salisbury High, Bishop Wordsworth and South Wilts
Grammar for refereeing the games and the caterers for providing food and drink. The partnership would like to wish Broad Chalke, St Marks and Harnham the best of luck in the County Finals.
