Dual County Ability Counts Festival enjoyed by all!

12:00 PM, Wednesday, 03 November 10.

Stanley Park, Chippenham played host to the new and exciting Ability Counts League on Sunday 31 October 2010, for footballers with physical and learning disabilities.

The Ability Counts League, which sees teams from both Wiltshire and Dorset compete in 2 different divisions, kicked for the first time this season. Last Sunday was the 2nd round of fixtures played so far this season, with the first taking place in Dorset. The festivals alternate between the 2 Counties to ensure that travelling is cut down to a minimum which creates accessible playing opportunities for all teams.

The event jointly organised by STFC Football in the Community’s Every Player Counts Programme, Wiltshire County FA and the Dorset FA witnessed 9 teams competing across 2 divisions, the Championship and League. The standard of football played over the day was credit to all teams, coaches and managers. More importantly the matches were played in a fantastic spirit and adhered to the Respect campaign which is being promoted by the League.

Adam Greaney, STFC Football in the Community Trust Disability Officer commented:

“It’s great to see so many local players having the opportunity to participate in a professionally organised, competitive League within our Counties. Today has been a fantastic event and Wiltshire as a County is looking forward to hosting more Ability Counts fixtures”.

The 3rd round of fixtures is to be played at Ferndown Leisure Centre, Dorset on Sunday 28th November 2010, with Wiltshire hosting the 4th round on Sunday 20th February 2011 after a winter break.
