Walking Football Hits 400 Players

Walking Football hits a huge milestone since 2014 and still continues to grow

Walking Football for the Over 50's was launched in October 2014 at Stanley Park Sports Ground, Chippenham and from its humble beginnings with just 10 players (see image below) the game has now grown to 400 players!

NB: We have since sadly learned of the passing of Ed Byrne (White Adidas shirt) - Our condolences to his family.

400 players is an incredible achievement and it is a positive indicator that there is still an appeitite to play football in your 50’s and beyond. Walking Football in Wiltshire operates at 11 venues of which every player is freely able to access a session whenever they like, and as often or as little as they like too.

In the first week of August 2017 alone there were a registered number of 134 players across the week and that's with the so-called 'Summer' weather so it goes to show nothing stops these guys accessing their football! All of Wiltshire FA's Walking Football sessions are £2.00 per person, and operate under the 'Just Play' AKA Turn Up and Play scheme. There is no commitment, no membership or restrictions on where you play or how often, just turn up to any session that suits you.

Lastly Wiltshire FA would like to say a huge thank you to all the venues who host these sessions, week in and week out, accommodating the players, as well as Wiltshire Council who have also supported the programme from the start. Another huge thank you goes to 2016 Volunteer of The Year Award Winner, Tony Norton for his hard work and efforts in supporting the venues, the County FA and players in this growing game - 400 players (and growing!) would not be possible without your help.
