Designated Safeguarding Officer

Here is an exciting opportunity to be involved at the frontline of safeguarding for the Wiltshire County Football Association.

25 hours per week
Salary: £25,000 pro rata + Pension

This flexible part-time (25 hours) position will manage all areas of safeguarding including compliance with legislation and adherence to FA safeguarding policy, procedure and regulation. The post holder shall significantly contribute to the implementation of the County FA Safeguarding Operating Standards and will work closely with, and be supported by, the County Administrator.

  • Lead the implementation and delivery of safeguarding policy and procedures including having accountability for relevant areas of the Safeguarding Operating Standards as set out by The FA
  • Refer and record all abuse cases reported to the County FA to The FA Case Management
  • Deal with poor practice concerns from leagues, clubs and referees in accordance with FA regulations
  • Utilise FA IT systems to monitor safeguarding compliance across the grassroots volunteer network and assist in strategic planning
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and key FA Staff
  • Strategically manage an effective designated persons network; liaising with Local Authority Designated Officers, Children’s Social Care, Police Child Protection Teams and support youth league and club welfare officers to be compliant with safeguarding legislation
  • Instil the understanding across the game that safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility

Applicants must have an understanding of safeguarding children and / or vulnerable group’s legislation and have a child centred approach. An understanding of grassroots football and experience of working as a designated person is vital. A "Customer Excellence" ethos is of paramount importance as is the ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively and be a strong team player.

The position is for 25 hours per week and the days worked are flexible. In addition the benefits package includes a generous allocation 28 days annual leave (pro rata) + Bank Holidays, a 3% contributory pension and training opportunities. The post holder will be required to work in the County Office based at Units 2/3 Dorcan Business Village, Murdock Road, Dorcan, Swindon, SN3 5HY.
