Groundsman of the Year

County Headquarters

Over the last four years the Wiltshire County FA have been exploring a number of options to relocate our Headquarters. This is based on the strategic decision of being ‘central’ to our membership. The process has thrown up a number of options, and we have explored many of these in great detail.

Devizes is a high priority for improved football facilities following recommendations from the Wiltshire Council’s Playing Pitch Strategy. In short this means the town needs more pitches and better training facilities (there are two other high priority areas in Wiltshire).

A scheme has been developed in partnership with Devizes Town Council at Green Lane playing fields. A scheme that is no different to other large community projects that have been delivered in neighbouring areas - in the sense that it focuses on the primary needs of the whole local community first.

Wiltshire FA will continue to work with Devizes Town Council on the scheme, and will be considering this scheme as the potential new home for the Wiltshire FA. This is one of the key considerations for both organisations in delivering a sustainable business plan for the large sports site.

The architects who we have been working with us for around 18 months to develop a scheme have been instructed to submit a planning application. This includes the option to build a full size 3G Football Turf Pitch. Once the planning application is submitted, the drawings will be available for public comment, and as with all large community facilities will involve consultation.

It is expected that all sports clubs/teams in Devizes & surrounding areas will benefit from this scheme, in particular existing tenants including the archery club. We hope that the local organisations and community get behind this, and help create further momentum. Local examples in Chippenham, Royal Wootton Bassett, Calne & Melksham show what can be achieved when communities work together.
