It's Recycle Week 2023!

Join The BIG Recycling Hunt

Now in its twentieth year, Recycle Week is the nation’s biggest annual celebration of recycling.

Recycle Week is calling on children aged 5 to 11 to take the lead in protecting our planet. With a week of fun activities, the campaign wants to empower the youth to become active participants in building a sustainable future.

"The Big Recycling Hunt", the central theme of this year's campaign, promises to shine a bright spotlight on "missed capture." This nationwide hunt aims to engage children and families in the quest to find 'lost recyclables' that too often find their way into the rubbish bin. By focusing on commonly missed items such as empty aerosols, plastic cleaning product bottles, plastic toiletry bottles, plastic pots and tubs, and food tins, Recycle Now wants to foster a deeper understanding of recycling in the younger generation.

Harriet Lamb, CEO of WRAP, says: “The importance of this initiative extends beyond Recycle Week. By empowering children with the knowledge and tools to become recycling advocates, we are not only nurturing the future but also ensuring a healthier and more sustainable world for all. Join us in celebrating Recycle Week and empowering the next generation of environmental champions!”

Wiltshire FA is supporting Recycle Week by continuing our promotion of The Good Game. Along with partner, Hills Waste Solutions, we are recruiting Good Game Champions to help football clubs in Wiltshire adopt ideas to be more green, sharing best practice and offering advice and suggestions with the ambition to collectively make a difference.

Our Good Game Champions will fight for change, they don't need to be experts to show their commitment to the environment, they simply have to be the person to ask questions, suggest changes, chat and debate sustainability in football. We can engage our players to think about sustainability in football, creating circular football clubs by eliminating single-use plastics, such as cups, straws and carrier bags from their facilities and by speaking to Hills Waste Solutions about sending zero waste to landfill, by re-using materials and increasing recycling rates.

Be a Champion!

Become a Good Game Champion and do your club the world of good.

You don't need to be an expert to show your commitment to the environment, simply be the person to ask questions, make suggestions, chat and debate about the small steps you could take to reduce your environmental impact.

We are launching a pilot scheme, seeking 10 champions from across our network. Each champion will be given a t-shirt, offered training to understand more about sustainability in football, invited to share stories and will be entered into Wiltshire FA Excellence Awards.

Be one of our Champions and complete the form. Together we can use the influence of football to protect our planet.
