Veteran’s football continues to grow in Wiltshire

New over 45 division

Veteran’s football in Wiltshire is going from strength to strength.

Lyndon Taylor, Football Development Officer at Wiltshire FA said, “After a few seasons of running a successful flexi league for Veterans, in 2019 the Wiltshire Senior League established the Veteran’s division for players aged 35 and over.

“Despite the impact of Covid-19 throughout 2020 and into 2021, the division has continued to grow and is now about to extend and launch a division for players aged 45 and over in the County.”

Veteran’s football is played mid-week, often on 3G pitches and matches are 25 minutes each way. Players are eligible for the new division as soon as they reach the age of 45.

Lyndon continues, “The popularity of Veteran’s football is growing because it extends the player pathway, encouraging people, who perhaps thought their playing days were over, to continue with the game. It is a great opportunity to keep fit and stay in touch with friends.”

League Secretary, Jim Thorn added, “We are actively recruiting players and teams for the new division so if you’re keen to continue your football journey please get in touch.

“Anyone interested can also come and see the game played at our first over 45 match on Monday 14 November, Bradford Town Over 45’s v Chippenham Town Over 45’s at Westbury United.”
